about the author

J.M. Kearns, PhD, is a writer of fiction and non-fiction who has at various times been a philosopher of perception, a crisis counselor and a music journalist. He brings to relationship books the unusual combination of a philosopher’s probing mind and a novelist’s insight into emotions. He can delve below the surface of relationships, debunk the myths that deceive us about romance, and bring his points to life with juicy stories.

His book Why Mr. Right Can't Find You has been published in Canada, the UK, Australia, and the U.S.; and it has recently been translated into Chinese and French. In it, Kearns distills years of observation and experience into a shot of optimistic practicality, delivering unexpected good news on a number of fronts. Why Mr. Right Can't Find You has been embraced by readers and the press on both sides of the Atlantic, being featured on Oprah & Friends, and in Maclean's, the Toronto Star, OK! Magazine, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan-UK, as well as radio and television.

Kearns’ novel ex-Cottagers in Love is a dark-humored exploration of a mid-life crisis, and his latest relationship book, Better Love Next Time, tackles the problem of how to heal your romantic soul and decode the lessons of the past.

The final twist: Kearns has an alter ego as a dynamic performer who sings his own songs about love and life. No wonder he is very comfortable with a live audience, on radio or TV, and makes a witty, engaging speaker.

J.M. Kearns grew up near Toronto, Canada and now lives in Cape May, New Jersey with his partner Debra.
